Katia Hayati (pronouns they/them/their) is a soprano based in Tacoma, WA.  Katia is an avid recitalist, with a particular interest in new music and music by under-represented composers. In 2024 they co-authored and performed a new song cycle titled The Mother/The Witch with composer Felix Jarrar and librettist Rachel Marie Patterson. They also performed works by Pauline Viardot and Augusta Holmès. In 2023 they performed works by Rebecca Clarke in multiple venues. Past concert programs include works by Libby Larsen, Alan Louis Smith, Gustav Mahler, Richard Wagner, Hector Berlioz, and others.

Katia recently appeared with Opera Idaho as Suor Zelatrice (Suor Angelica), La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi), and jumped in as the Duke of Verona in Roméo et Juliette. With the Opera Idaho in the Schools program they performed for thousands of schoolchildren across the Treasure Valley as Ruth, the Pirate King, and the Major General in Pirates of Penzance. Katia has also regularly performed at Opera Idaho concerts.

Some favorite past opera roles have included Pisana in I Due Foscari, Clotilde in Norma, Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor, all with West Bay Opera, Magda Sorel in The Consul with Just Opera, and the Mother in Hansel and Gretel with Bayshore Lyric Opera.


Katia delights in singing comedic cross-cast and pants roles. They have performed Sparkeion in Gilbert and Sullivan's Thespis with Lyric Theatre, the Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance and Sempronio in Lo Speziale with Bay Area Opera Collaborative, and Siébel in Faust with Verismo Opera.

Katia 
came to singing following a career as a software engineer at Silicon Valley startups. They hold advanced degrees in mathematics and computer science.
